A Faculty Review allows a Faculty and its employees to recognize their strengths and weaknesses. Intervene in order to achieve successful and long-term improvements. It has internal benefits for the faculty and staff, as well as exterior benefits for students and the institution’s reputation.

    Faculty’s mission, vision, goals

    A Faculty Review allows faculty leaders and staff to create, clarify, and articulate the Faculty’s mission, vision, goals, and objectives. The relationship to those of the university, and to assess the nature and impact of the Faculty’s academic activities. It allows faculty to receive feedback on the Faculty and take action as a result of the feedback. Define collective priorities and disseminate best practices.

    Faculty Review helps to cultivate and implement evidence-based decision-making and leadership. It highlights resources and requirements, as well as encourages action planning. It improves the staff’s ability to assess and monitor themselves, one another, students, and the Faculty.

    Professional development

    Faculty members can use a Faculty Review to build a systematic, rigorous mentality/mindset toward, and manner of looking at, planning, delivering, and evaluating a Faculty, as well as their own and others’ work, and to do it methodically, cooperatively, and collegially. It increases morale by encouraging collaborative and collegial activities. It is an important aspect of the staff’s ongoing professional development and it improves their professionalism through regulation, self-regulation, and self-organized Faculty development.

    Faculty Review contributes to the Faculty, staff, and students’ ongoing progress. Faculty Review is both a means and a result of continuous development.

    A Faculty Review is a collaborative process that results in agreement on the Faculty’s goals, objectives, and anticipated outcomes, providing a single set of benchmark criteria for planning and evaluating the Faculty. It allows staff to recognize the Faculty’s unique and/or distinguishing characteristics. It helps student and staff recruitment and orientation (which is also useful for Human Resource Managers and Personnel Officers)


    For publicity, identifying what the Faculty stands for and where it is headed. Staff will work together to reach a consensus.

    Student outcomes are included in the data collection Faculty Review. Faculty Review can assist staff in understanding the procedures that lead to the outcomes in order to change. When necessary, i.e. the Faculty Review has a clear formative agenda.

    Faculty Reviews can also utilize in the presenting of proposals for research applications and grants.

    Some grant applications require applicants to include information on institutional or organizational competency and capacity, which Faculty Reviews can provide.

    Faculty Review intends to assure consistency, dependability, and quality in meetings. The demands of fitness of purpose and fitness for purpose in a timely (‘right first time’) manner. It ensures the Faculty link not just with its own goals, objectives, and learning outcomes. The strategic direction of the university.
